Ex Cathedra is a charity about singing. They believe that everyone should be able to experience the remarkable physical, mental & emotional health benefits of singing together. Their many varied participation projects bring people together through singing, from whole schools singing in playgrounds and classrooms, to local community choirs and our hospital work. 

In the concert hall, Ex Cathedra is a leading UK choir and Early Music ensemble with a repertoire that reaches from the 12th to the 21st centuries; known for their passion for seeking out the best, the unfamiliar and the unexpected in the choral repertoire and for giving dynamic performances underpinned by detailed research. 

Founded in 1969 by Jeffrey Skidmore, Ex Cathedra is a unique musical resource, comprising specialist chamber choir, vocal Consort, period-instrument orchestra and a thriving education programme.

As well as bringing new insights to choral masterpieces, Ex Cathedra are committed to expanding the choral repertoire from research into little-known gems from the Latin American Baroque to commissioning and championing new choral music.

Ex Cathedra Singing Medicine ®

Singing Medicine ®, founded in 2004,  is a project delivered by Ex Cathedra whose team has delivered more than 40,000 Singing Medicine ® sessions; at bedsides to sick children in hospitals, working in intensive care and high dependency units, in isolation rooms and other in-patient units including those for oncology, liver, neurology and cardiac. During this pandemic the work hasn’t stopped, but taken on an innovative approach. The team continues by making interactive singing films for children now isolated, and especially made, interactive ‘Singing Postcards’ for individual children in hospital who cannot have visitors at this time and are more isolated than ever before.
